Welcome to our page..
When we hear the word “BUTTERFLY” we only thought about something beautiful and a small not really important thing in our life. But after some research, observe, and an experiment, we found that butterfly has also an important role in our life same like other animal’s creature.
In this page we can see the important of butterfly, this is the resume of our adventure..

central idea:
Biodiversity relies on maintaining the interdependent balance of organisms within systems.

The Lines of Inquiry:
• Ways in which ecosystems, biomes and environments are interdependent
• How human interaction with the environment can affect the balance of systems
• The consequences of imbalance within ecosystems

Our Topic: Forest Ecosystem
Decreasing of butterfly population due to the loss of hosting plant
Science strands: Living things
The study of the characteristics, systems and behaviors of humans and other animals, and of plants; the interactions and relationships between and among them, and with their environment.

Related concepts:
adaptation, animals, biodiversity, biology, classification, conservation, ecosystems, evolution, genetics, growth, habitat, homeostasis, organism, plants.

exploring, wondering, questioning

We explore the "Butterfly" through science method and article about it. After that we make mind map about it.
Picture

We are wondering about "Butterfly".... and Questioning...
Does all caterpillar become butterflies?
How is their reproduction?
What is their function?
How many species?
Why butterfly decrease?
What can be happened to them if their habitat is ruined?

Picture

researching and seeking information

We research and seek information about butterfly population and species through internet.
From this article, we found that Butterfly Papua's Endemic is almost extinct
Picture
Butterflies Endemic Papua
These are some butterfly's species which are protected and their status according to the IUCN Red List.
Ornithoptera chimaera (Kupu Sayap Burung Peri atau Chimaera Birdwing). Status konservasi IUCN Redlist: Near Threatened. Ditemukan di Papua (Indonesia dan Papua Nugini).
Ornithoptera paradisea (Kupu Sayap Burung Surga atau Butterfly of Paradise). Ditemukan di Papua (Indonesia dan Papua Nugini). Status konservasi IUCN Redlist: Least Concern.
Ornithoptera rothschildi (Kupu Burung Rotsil atau Rothschild’s Birdwing). Ditemukan di Papua, Indonesia. Status Konservasi: Vulnerable.

collecting data and reporting findings

To collect data, we went to LIPI in Cibinong, we met Ibu Peggie Djunianti, she is a butterfly researcher .
We learn about the population of butterfly that has decreased, we saw many kinds of butterfly in detail and we learn about the differences between the male and female butterfly, we discovered about the species of butterfly in Pulau Jawa, and we discovered about the differences between "moth" and " butterfly", the differences between moth and butterfly: moth is bigger than butterfly, and moth is furry.. and the wings are bigger than butterfly's wings.. maybe people would think that they are the same because of the shaped.
butterfly eats nectar and they spread their pollen to flowers for a reproduction.
Caterpillar has their own host plants  and not all caterpillars can be butterfly.

We report our findings through KWL, question and answer, mind map and 6 thinking hats.

experimenting and playing with possibilities

We are agreed that the most important of a butterfly's life is the host plant. In the forest butterfly's population decrease because we cut the trees and not replant them, burned them. In the city, many trees are cut down for the building construction. These activities destroy the butterflies host plants, that's why their population decrease.
We have decided to do an experiment to know:
Does butterfly's caterpillar can live without it's host plant???
Picture
First day: We search the caterpillars in our playground. We found them on the Kedondong tree. We put them in a vase together with the non-host plant (orange tree).

Picture
We put them in our class next to the window.

After two days, we found that the plant are getting wither.

Then we made a mini conservation for them.

Picture

making predictions and acting purposefully to see what happens

OUR PREDICTION: From the experiment we predict that the caterpillar wont move from it's host plant to other plant.

At day 18th, we found our conservation destroyed. That was because of the rain at the other night. Our tree, caterpillar and pupa were ruined.

After discussion with all group member, we make conclusion from our experiment.

Self Action
Before we ask people to help butterfly by planting host plants at their environment. We have to do it first.

2nd Action
We have done an action in Sekolah Dasar Negri 14 Pondok Labu at Jalan Bango 4. We explain about butterfly, the importance of it and it's struggle life. We asked the grade 5 students there to plant the butterfly's caterpillar host plants in their school and home, because 1 plant can save many butterflies.
3rd Action
We talked with Miss Desy as The Principal of Al Jabr about the importance of butterfly and the host plants.
